Neighbours Poland and Ukraine will stage UEFA EURO 2012™ following a decision taken by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Cardiff, Wales in April 2007.
The bid process for staging UEFA EURO 2012™ took place in two stages, as a means of saving resources for all concerned. An invitation for bids was issued in November 2004. The first phase led to the pre-selection of three bidders, after the submission of initial bid dossiers by candidates in the summer of 2005.
Consequently, the UEFA Executive Committee drew up a shortlist of three candidates in November 2005, and following a period where UEFA undertook site visits and the candidates were able to fine-tune their bids, the Executive Committee decided to award the hosting of the 2012 final tournament to Poland and Ukraine.
Matters involving UEFA EURO 2012™ are administered by UEFA's Professional Football division under director Giorgio Marchetti.
